In the rolling Welsh mountains in the UK is where Jessica lives, shreds and seeks out adventure. Having literally fallen head over heads in love with mountain biking in 2015, she quickly made it her life’s passion. With very few women to ride with in her area, Jessica set up the Velo Vie Ladies riding group where she organises rides and events throughout the year for the 200 strong army of trail blazers.
Finding her new family in mountain biking, Jessica wanted to give back to the welcoming community, and so she launched Velo Me. A website dedicated to promoting and encouraging women in mountain biking. Jessica’s interviewed professional athletes, reviewed women’s specific kits and has researched health topics such as the menstrual cycle and mental health, and their affects on our cycling performance.
It was in December 2015 when she was picked up by Total Women’s Cycling, where she now manages off-road, health and nutritional content for female riders. At the same time, Jessica became an ambassador for Strongher, the global women’s cycling initiative, and was nominated for a Cycle Media Award for Best Blogger of the year.
Biking isn’t her only passion though, Jessica is mad about her cat, Gomez Thunderpaws. Having taking him out for trail rides, walks and hikes, Jessica and Gomez head out seeking adventure whenever it’s not raining, Gomez doesn’t like to get wet! Her favourite way to unwind after a hard day trail riding is snuggling up with her furry boy, sipping tea and watching classic sci-fi movies.
What is your favorite thing to do in SHREDLY that is not on two wheels?
My SHREDLY shorts and leggings take me on adventures that two wheels just can’t. If I’m not out on the bike then I’m usually out finding my own adventures in climbing and trail running. SHREDLY is so versatile that they’ve become my ultimate outdoor companion.
How many days a year do you think you wear your SHREDLY?
Oof, days? At least 110 but I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s actually a lot more!
What is your favorite pattern?
It’s so hard to choose just one but the JODIE would have to be my favourite.
What is your all-time favorite trail to ride?
It would have to be the Black Trail in Llandegla, North Wales. It’s got a little bit of everything to get your heart racing and adrenaline going.
What is your day job?
I’m a staff writer for Total Women’s Cycling where I primarily cover off-road content, but I also dabble in training, nutrition and lifestyle aspects of cycling.
I also run Velo Me which is a women’s specific mountain bike website to help promote the sport and encourage new riders.
What is your dream job?
Something that combines a lot of riding, my cat, traveling the world and helping to further the development and promotion of women in mountain biking.
What do you think the secret to happiness is?
It’s about the quality of life, and not the quantity of it. Happiness to me is my cat, Gomez Thunderpaws, a great group of friends and of course, having the ability to ride my bike.
